Kanye West Speaks Out After Being Mentioned in Issa Rae SNL Joke – Hollywood Reporter

During a sketch, Rae’s character stated that she’s “voting for everybody Black” but when it comes to West, “F him!”

Kanye West is speaking out after being mentioned in a joke during Saturday Night Live.

During the “Your Vote Chicago” sketch, the night’s host Issa Rae played a lawyer representative for the NAACP appearing on morning talk show. While speaking about political candidates, Rae’s character stated that she is “voting for everybody Black.” Her joke referenced Rae’s comments that she was “rooting for everybody Black” at the 2017 Emmy Awards.

“For too long, our people’s voices have not been heard. It’s our duty to stand together and take our power back,” she said during the sketch.

However toward the end of the sketch, she revealed one candidate she will not be lending her support for. “When we come back, we’ll talk about the presidential race between Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Kanye West,” Kenan Thompson’s anchor character said. Rae’s character then fired back, “Kanye? F him!”

West took to Twitter Sunday morning to respond to the joke. “Ive always said SNL uses black people to hold other black people back,” he wrote. “My heart goes out to Issa Rae. I’m praying for her and her family.”

He also added, “I know that the twenty years of service that I’ve paid in the entertainment field has furthered our ability to be more successful.”

Just last week, the musician released his first campaign video ad for his presidential bid which he announced earlier this year. In the video, West speaks in front of a video of a black American Flag, citing, “We will build a stronger country by building a stronger family.”

Though announcing that he’s running for president, West is listed as a vice-presidential candidate on the state’s ballot.
